ABOUT · MY JOURNEY
From support work to production infrastructure.
A decade of learning systems from the ground up — from IT support and cloud operations to working with production infrastructure today.
WHERE I AM NOW · 2023–2026
Working closer to production.
As a System Engineer, the work became more connected to production: migrations, multi-server environments, databases, backup and recovery, security, and incidents where a technical decision could affect an entire service. The responsibility grew with the systems, and so did the way I approached changes — with more attention to reliability, recovery, and what happens after something goes live. That path now continues into cloud infrastructure, Infrastructure as Code, automation, containers, and Kubernetes.
THE SHIFT · 2021–2022
Moving from systems to infrastructure.
Moving into Cloud Support changed the scale of the problems I worked on. Instead of looking at one device or one user at a time, I began working around Linux servers, virtualization, cloud environments, and services that depended on one another. That shift taught me to look beyond the immediate symptom and think more about availability, dependencies, and the infrastructure behind a service.
THE FOUNDATION · 2016–2020
Learning systems from the ground up.
I started in IT Support, where the work was close to both the systems and the people using them. Troubleshooting operating systems, hardware, networks, and day-to-day issues taught me to follow a problem from what a user sees to what is actually happening underneath. It was a practical beginning, and it gave me the habit of understanding a system before trying to change it.
“Reputation is what other people know about you. Honor is what you know about yourself.”
— Lois McMaster Bujold
The projects tell the rest of the story.
The progression makes more sense through the work itself — the problems, the environments, the decisions, and the results.
